Birenweggen is a traditional fall bread filled with dried pears with walnuts and cardamom. Approx. 1 lb. Baked at The Swiss Bakery.

My grandfather became a baker after emigrating to the US from Schwyz back in the early 1930s. He made this treat (and a few other things) for the holidays every year. He made the filling from locally (Calif) grown fruits he dried himself. (I think the only real difference is that he also used apricots and currants). My aunt and uncle and I agree that this is THE best bread, and closest to Vater's that we've had.
